About HPOS

prosthetist fitting

Our vision:

To ensure people with physical disabilities and injuries remain active and mobile to their best potential, fulfilling their life goals.

Our mission:

To assess, make and fit superior quality prosthetics and orthotics to improve the quality of life of those with physical disabilities or injuries, providing a timely, caring and local service.

Hunter Prosthetics and Orthotics Service (HPOS) has provided a full range of prosthetic and orthotic services to inpatient, outpatient and community clients since 1986.

The service has grown from its Newcastle base and reaches all surrounding areas throughout the Hunter New England region.

We also provide services to Port Macquarie and Dubbo every three weeks, enabling us to support clients from the mid-North Coast and Central / Far West NSW regions. As an extension to our orthotics service, we conduct a regular custom footwear clinic with help of a surgical bootmaker at our Newcastle site. This allows us to deliver more complete care for clients with severe foot deformities who are not able to use standard footwear.

We have strong working relationships with John Hunter Hospital and Rankin Park services providing both acute and complex services to inpatients and outpatients. The team also has established relationships with referring doctors and allied health professionals, both public and private, across the health sector.

HPOS is part of EnableNSW, a state-wide service responsible for providing aids and equipment to people with chronic health conditions or disability to assist them with mobility, communication and self-care.
